Ireland’s first food ÉCONOMUSÉE opens at The Connemara Smokehouse!
Renowned for its idyllic location and stunning scenery, visitors rarely need an excuse to explore Connemara, however with the opening of Ireland’s first food ÉCONOMUSÉE at The Connemara Smokehouse in Aillebrack, Ballyconneely it’s just provided another appetising reason to head west!
An ÉCONOMUSÉE acts as a working museum allowing an artisan business like the Connemara Smokehouse to opens its doors to the public to provide a learning and interpretive experience for visitors. As one of the few remaining specialists in Ireland producing high quality smoked wild salmon & smoked Tuna, the ÉCONOMUSÉE showcases the highly-skilled seafood processes, handed down through the generations of the Roberts family since 1979.
Supported by Teagasc, who is leading the project in Ireland, the ÉCONOMUSÉE is an integral cultural tourism attraction and contributes to the sustainability of rural areas through the creation of direct employment and by providing an attraction that disperses tourists to rural regions.
Graham and Saoirse Roberts work in a hands-on capacity using the freshest and finest locally caught seafood following traditional smoking methods that can now be explored at the ÉCONOMUSÉE.
